Protectores de la Tierra is a Black and Indigenous food sovereignty project with volunteer farming opportunities for artists and creative activists.
A generation ago, most food products were grown and even exported from Nuquí, including rice, beans, cane, coconut, pineapple, yuca, banana, tarot, medicinal plants, and more. With no highways to get to Nuquí by car, what goes in and out comes by boat or by plane. Food sovereignty is crucial in this region. The pandemic and the Colombian national strike are just examples of what we are facing and have faced as Black and Indigenous communities. We are getting active and welcoming others who have the knowledge, are learning, and who want to participate in our vision of a community once again with access to locally grown, plant-based meals.
