Self Care = Self Love for the R(Evolution)

The Theatre Communications Group launched Theatre for Activism, a three-part series of gatherings to strengthen care, share practices, and forge connections between current theatre activists and those just beginning this work. The first part, Rest Up, took place April 27–28, 2023 as a TCG virtual gathering and focused on prioritizing rest and care.

The gathering prioritized the care networks of femme, Queer, TGNC, and disabled BIPOC, who have created powerful practices of care out of necessity. Sessions covered care as a creative act, sound healing, addressing burnout, collective rest, shifting organizational policy and practice, cultivating rest practices as a freelance artist, self-care and self-love, care for caregivers, and a closing conversation on theatre, health, and liberation.

The T4A series was part of Accountability for Abundance (A4A), a national initiative of theatre activists committed to developing and sharing new practices that prioritize accountability and abundance for a more equitable theatre ecology. Pricing was tiered, with free tickets available.
