2024 Wins at Protectores de la Tierra and Fundraising for a Professional Distillation Machine

We are incredibly grateful for the big wins we’ve achieved this year and extend our heartfelt thanks to you—whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or are just joining now. Your support has been invaluable in helping us grow and thrive.

Here’s a look at some of this year’s highlights, spanning three key areas of success:

🌱 1. Harvests

This year, we celebrated our first-ever pineapple harvest—a milestone that fills us with pride and motivates us to keep growing.

🍍 400 Pineapples

Our pineapple harvest since March 2024 has been a sweet success, providing fresh fruit for the community.

🌾 Half a Ton of Rice

Freshly harvested and shared with those in need and our hardworking volunteers.

🍌 Half a Ton of Plantains

Abundant plantains have been shared with volunteers and the community, supporting local nutrition.

🤝 2. Community Involvement

We’ve deepened our connections with the community, employing dozens of local workers—primarily from our Indigenous Embera community—and welcoming abundant support through Mingas (work parties) and volunteer efforts. We’ve also strengthened partnerships with local farmers in four districts of Nuquí (Tribugá, Coquí, Joví, and Nuquí Arriba), creating a network of collaboration and solidarity.

🌍 3. Expanding Outside Support

Through in-person events, international tours, and virtual features, we’ve shared our mission with wider audiences:

- In January, we hosted a group with the annual Festival del Tamborito, a joyful celebration of culture.

- In August, we collaborated with Colombia’s Ministry of Culture for Mandatos de la Tierra, a solidarity initiative with Pacific Coast communities led by Indigenous Consejo Willka Yaku.

- In October in New York, we were welcomed at the New Roots Community Garden by Sebastian, one of their organizers, who visited us in Nuquí earlier this year.

- Co-Founder Yowar shared our ancestral practices in an interview featured in Science for the People’s Magazine, thanks to Colombian artist Sara Gutierrez.

- And, very excitingly, we were selected for this year's Echoing Green Fellowship, which recognizes innovative leaders driving social change. This opportunity took us to Ghana for the first time, where we connected with a global network of changemakers.

🔮 Looking Ahead

While we’ve achieved so much, there is still so much more to do! We are in the midst of a 4-year strategic plan to expand our farm’s physical capacity to host workers, volunteers, and visitors. This includes building infrastructure for agricultural methods, ancestral practices, and product processing.

Our next big focus is viche! With an upcoming large harvest, we’re raising $7,000 USD to purchase a professional distillation machine. This investment will help us move from hyper-artisanal production to a certified, scalable process, enabling us to share Nuquí-made viche with the world.

We are immensely grateful for your continued support and invite you to consider contributing as part of your year-end giving. Together, we can take these next big steps to grow and share the beauty of Nuquí with communities far and wide.

Thank you for believing in us and for being part of this journey!
